Data Sources

Bathing water quality data from the European Environment Agency (EEA) under the EU Bathing Water Directive 2006/7/EC. Data reflects the most recent bathing season reported by EU member states.

Quality Classifications

Bathing sites are classified as Excellent, Good, Sufficient, or Poor based on microbiological sampling results (E. coli and intestinal enterococci concentrations) over a four-year assessment period, as defined by the Directive.

Reporting Cycle

EU member states report bathing water quality data to the EEA annually after the bathing season ends. There is typically a delay between the end of the bathing season and when data becomes available. New data is generally published by the EEA each June.

Limitations

Water quality classifications are based on historical sampling and may not reflect current conditions. Water quality can change rapidly due to rainfall, sewage overflows, algal blooms, and other factors. Sampling frequency and methodology may vary between countries.

Not a Substitute for Official Advisories

This site is not a substitute for official government bathing water data or local advisories. Always check on-site signage and local authority notices before swimming, especially after heavy rainfall.
